I’d highly recommend this place to rent a board or get a lesson with the very knowledgeable instructor Damila! He’s from the area and will help you navigate the place and the different spots that are suitable for your level. Very professional and helpful instructor but also lovely friendly human!!
Damila showed us his local spot, explained the details of the spot and gave us very useful feedback on our intermediate lesson. The spot was very quiet so it was just the three of us. Damila and his team are all kind and upbeat people! You’ll have a good time surfing here. Can’t recommend it enough!

New to surfing? Take a lesson first
If you’ve never surfed before, an hour with an instructor will get you standing up far faster than an hour on your own. Lessons start at $30 and include the board.

567 Galle Road, Owakanda, Rathgama
Our base is right on the Galle Road with clear signage, about 15 minutes from Hikkaduwa and 20 from Galle. Easy to spot whether you’re driving, in a tuk tuk or on the bus.
From May to September we relocate to Arugam Bay on the east coast.

How much does it cost?
Hire starts at LKR 1,000 per hour, roughly $3. Day and multi-day rentals are discounted — message us with your dates for a price.
Which board should I choose?
If you’re learning, a foam board. They float better, catch waves more easily and are safer for everyone in the water. If you’re already standing up, tell us your height, weight and experience and we’ll suggest something. Easiest thing is to come and ask.
Do I need to book ahead?
Not essential, but recommended. Availability varies with the season and how busy we are, and booking ahead is the only way to guarantee the board you want.
Can I hire for a whole week?
Yes. Longer rentals are discounted. Message us with your dates and we’ll quote you.
Where do I pick the board up?
From our base at 567 Galle Road, Owakanda, Rathgama — near Hikkaduwa. Look for the sign.
Do you hire in Arugam Bay too?
Yes, from May to September when we relocate to the east coast for the Arugam Bay season.
